For many areas of laboratory use, magnesium oxide is considered an ideal material because of its good corrosion resistance and the high application temperature of over 2000°C. Unfortunately, this material has a relatively high thermal expansion and is therefore only partially resistant to thermal shock.

Little to no reaction with beryllium, bismuth, copper, nickel, platinium, tin, iron, sodium, plutonium, uranium.
