Aluminum titanate porous (TIALIT‑G)

70% aluminum oxide, 30% titanium oxide (Al2TiO5)

Aluminum titanate (Tialit) is a very versatile and highly advanced material used in the ceramics and foundry industries, as well as in mechanical and plant engineering. This is due to its unique properties that distinguish it from other materials.

One of the most important features of aluminum titanate (Tialit) is its thermal shock resistance. This means that major temperature changes are not a problem for components made of this material, as it is very stable and resistant.

Another plus point of aluminum titanate (Tialit) is its low wettability to liquid aluminum and its excellent thermal insulation properties. These properties make it an ideal material for applications in foundry technology, such as crucibles or nozzles.

But aluminum titanate (Tialit) also has a lot to offer in mechanical and plant engineering. This is due to its high residual porosity and microcracks caused by a pronounced thermal expansion anisotropy in the individual ATI crystal. These crystals have very different thermal expansion coefficients in the three main axes, which leads to stresses in the microscopic range during production and especially during cooling, thus forming microcracks in the microstructure.

As far as the macroscopic expansion behavior is concerned, aluminum titanate (tialite) is very stable and has a very low thermal expansion due to the thermal expansion anisotropy of the individual crystals. Since thermal expansion occurs internally first into the microcracks formed, the material remains very stable overall.
